The next hottest thing…

Pete Bowley, a Resort Refugee, finished his first triathlon recently. Taking part in the Musselman in Geneva, NY, Pete survived a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike ride, followed by a grueling 13 mile run without losing his lunch a single time!

See you in Kona!

Not sure how we ever missed this NYC gem (maybe because we simply dont get the chance to go to NYC enough) but saw this inspiring video (click the link) from Saturdays Surf NYC shop/espresso bar this morning…

Urban Daddy describes Saturdays, “Welcome to Saturdays, your new favorite surf shop and espresso bar and, most important, secret garden deck, now providing your latest hideaway for midday coffee and snacks.

Built by a group of artists/dreamers/surfers/malcontents that basically just wanted a Zen sanctuary in the city, you’ll want to duck into the little storefront when you’re looking to while away a lazy, hazy Saturday afternoon with a croissant and a latte and maybe spark up a love affair with surfing (or just a love affair).

The shop starts as a minimalist black-and-white coffee bar, then gives way to a warm, dark wood surf shop stocking rare boards, upscale wetsuits and other natty surf accouterments and then, it hits you…

The back deck—a massive expanse of wood and foliage perfect for escaping the mad buzz of Soho tourists while contemplating your existence in the universe for an hour, or just hosting your next pig roast.”

This is awesome… perfect for your passport, some loose change, and an iPod…

(Via SlamXHype) Here is a fascinating piece of work from HEYOKA and Hopi Botanicals with this custom pouch that was commissioned by legendary musician Neil Young. Featuring a hugely impressive ethnic feel that is the cornerstone of the label that was conceived by Emmelie Brunetti. This particular piece from HEYOKA includes a trade-bead necklace as well as a Hopi Botanicals special blend of Vetiver black amber balm poured into a vintage sterling Navajo pill box to complete their little leather masterpiece.

One thing we love as much as surfing is a beautiful girl surfing!  Lucky for us, Roxy has brought us Kassia Meador- one of the faces of the brand who will be competing in the Roxy Jam surf competition in Biarritz coming up this week…  Racked recently asked her for some of her “essentials” for surfer chicks:

· A bar of Sex Wax, $2.95 at Amazon
· Shiseido face stick sunscreen, $26 at Macy’s
· Depending on how cold it is, anything from one of my Roxy wetsuits, $154.95; or Roxy bathing suits, $40 (top).
· I always roll with a quiver of boards—my Takayama Model T, about $1,200, my Wegener Alaia, from $520; or my Manny Mandala 4 Fin.
· Roxy Unity board shorts, $38
· Free Flow Bag, $32
· Roxy New Wave sandals, $24
· Dear and Yonder surf DVD, $24.99

The new Web site shortomatic.com lets you transfer any digital image onto a pair of board shorts. We cooked up these with the help of our art department, but you don’t need to be a graphic designer to use the simple step-by-step service, which is a spinoff of the popular, punnier yogamatic.com (custom-designed yoga mats). At $99 (plus shipping), the shorts aren’t cheap, but they’re hand-sewn, made of super-soft polyester microfiber — and using your own image really does lend this summer staple some idiosyncratic pop. Only a men’s style is available now, in sizes 24 through 38, but a shorter option for beach bunnies will go on sale next month.

Frette… a name known among the must luxurious bed linen enthusiasts has a new home… the beach!  No longer satisfied to make sheets and pillow cases for Four Seasons and Ritz Carlson, Frette has branched outto the towel trade with a pretty slick lineup of luxury beach towels.

Check them out (if you´ve got the bank) here!

Then check out Swell, the exhibition taking place across three galleries in NYC´s Chelsea district. Read below from Cool Hunting

A love letter to the best of beach culture, the forthcoming exhibition “Swell” explores the heavy influence surfing has held on artists worldwide, with a particularly in-depth look at the major movements surfacing out of California’s Venice Beach during the 1960s. Spread among three galleries in NYC’s Chelsea neighborhood, the combined works amass to hundreds of photos, paintings and sketches for one of the largest surf-inspired exhibits in history.

The two strains of minimalist art originated in Venice Beach are Light and Space and Finish Fetish. Oft-using surfboard materials such as plastic and resin to create works of art, both groups experimented with bright colors and geometric patterns. Light and Space artists evoked transparency and the airy atmosphere of the West Coast, while the Finish Fetish offshoot fixated on the high-gloss surfaces of surfboards, hot rods and plastics.
